Our Founder

Mary Ann Msengi

Mary‑Ann Msengi’s story begins in a small corner of Zimbabwe, where her grandmother — Farai Angeline Tapedza — sewed handcrafted dresses and jumpers, travelling from Zimbabwe to South Africa in search of her next client. British Vogue

In London, Mary‑Ann carried that memory into the launch of Farai London in July 2020. The name “Farai” is drawn from the Shona word meaning “rejoice” or “be happy”. The Meaning of Names

She built the brand not just to dress women, but to capture the surge of movement, colour, and identity that she witnessed in her grandmother’s work, then felt in herself. The bold cuts, vibrant prints and unapologetic silhouettes are an echo and a revival of a legacy. Teen Vogue

For Mary‑Ann every dress is more than fabric. It is a piece of that journey — from Zimbabwe, through London, through self‑discovery — made for the woman who steps in and brings her own story with her.
